If you are considering a spinal cord stimulator for chronic pain, your physician or insurance provider may require a psychological evaluation before the procedure. This evaluation is a standard part of the preparation process and helps ensure the treatment is appropriate and positioned for the best possible outcome.
The evaluation typically takes 2–4 hours and includes a clinical interview with me, along with completion of psychological questionnaires and personality assessments that help evaluate factors known to influence pain treatment outcomes. I will also review relevant medical records as part of the evaluation process.
After the evaluation is completed, a written report is prepared and sent to your referring physician. The report summarizes the findings and may include recommendations for supportive treatments or strategies that can help improve the outcome of the spinal cord stimulator trial or implantation.
